Do You Hear What I hear?
A song, a song high up in the trees
With a voice as big as the seas
With a voice as big as the seas`
While listening to waterfalls I hear an inner roaring dissolving chaos in my soul. I hear inner waves of peace gently lapping on the shores of my mind and I want MORE! As I lean more deeply into my sojourn with Nature, a forcefield of contentment is rising up. I say a forcefield because the inner contentment is becoming louder and stronger than the chaos, meanness and hate that bombards the collective air waves. Whether you call it Nirvana, or “That peace that passes all understanding”, I hear our human birthright of inner peace refusing to be denied any longer.
What’s interesting is that when I first approach the rushing river at the bottom of the falls, those white waters sound loud. As I ascend to the first confluence that you see in the above video, the sound has risen to surround my body. the further I ascend the more the sound penetrates my being.
Scientists will tell us that the roar of the water propels negative ions to neutralize free radicals, revitalize cell metabolism and enhance immune function. They will prescribe waterfall therapy to promote mental calm and emotional balance. All I know is that when I descend from the falls, everything around me is all of a sudden quieter.
In this new quiet space I hear people deciding to rest in their joy and give authentic love that has no fear or anxiety hiding in the shadows. This quiet space energizes me to do work I have been running away from for years. I have been hiding behind my community contemplative practice hoping that is sufficient to address the second skin of racism that covers humanity around the globe. NOT!! So now I am energized to help those of us who identify as progressive gently dissolve our personal complicity with racism.
In this quiet space I am finally hearing exhausted farmers taking time to learn how to love their land, so that they can cultivate strength from the work they love. Did you know that even 5 minutes of loving your land can generate strength and peace of mind. With this practice your daily movement up and down the rows can erupt in spontaneous meditation or soulful song. Did you know that Nature rewards joyful encounter so that chores take less time?
